I'VE had to use the trains more often recently to travel out of town as well as buses and taxis locally.

One Sunday, however, going to Lancaster, I got a return, but, arriving at the rail station there at about 10pm to come home, I found plenty of trains going north, but none going south.

So I took a taxi to the bus station, but, ye gads, the last bus to Preston had also gone.

Needing to be home before Monday morning, I took a taxi home, which cost me £40.

A similar predicament with a return ticket from town meant the bus driver refused my return ticket because he didn't take returns for journeys short of Cherry Tree.
