KEEN runner Peter Wilcox will be flying out to America next month to take part in the New York Marathon.

Organisers of the annual race have decided to stage the event despite the devastating terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre last month.

Mr Wilcox who lives on the Walshaw Park Estate said: "I am a little apprehensive about travelling to New York, but I have decided to do it and raise money for Cystic fibrosis."

The married father of two will be accompanied by 35 of his friends at Centrica Group within British Gas who are raising money for the same charity.

"The company supports a charity every year, and this year we have decided to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis. All of us are to raise £2,000 or more for the charity," said Mr Wilcox, project analyst for the business systems department.

The New York race will be the sixth marathon run for Mr Wilcox. He has also undertaken the Three Peaks Walk.

"I spend my evenings running and training for the run," he said.

Mr Wilcox flies out on November 2 in time for the event on the 4th.
