BURY Gateway Club has opened its doors to younger members after a landing a charity cash boost, and is looking for extra volunteers.
The group, which already provided sports and social facilities for teenagers and adults with learning disabilities, has now set up a Junior Gateway Club.
Funding from Children in Need, £5,926 for the next year, has made the project possible.
Helpers are now needed to run Friday evening art, dance, craft and play sessions for children aged 8-14, at the Mosses Centre, Cecil Street.
Young members will also be able to take part in netball, football and basketball training and perform pantomimes. The club has already attracted many new members.
Gateway co-ordinator Margaret Barker said: "We were approached by quite a few social workers, teachers and parents because it would appear that there were no local social and sports facilities for children with learning disabilities.
"We hope to provide a vital service for these children and it would appear to be taking off. We've had a few children already. We're hoping that as the club grows we we will be able to provide days out and holidays as well."
Training will be provided for volunteers. Anyone interested in the project can contact Janette Ridgely on 797 2463.
