Leigh RMI 1 Forest Green Rovers 2
A RETURN of seven points from eight home games is not what manager Steve Waywell expected at the start of the season writes David Magilton
A disappointing opening was followed by four wins in five games but RMI are back to square one after two successive home defeats against far from impressive opposition.
Leigh started well but failed to capitalise on their supremacy, unlike the vistors, who scored with their first sight of goal in the 27th minute.
Dino Maamria was unfortunate as he slipped trying to intercept Kevin Langan's crossfield ball and laid it into the path of Simon Travis who took his chance by blasting home from the edge of the box.
It left Waywell disillusioned with his side's display. "It was a poor performance. The quality of passing was abysmal. We created nothing and have not done so for the past two games. It is not a lack of confidence as we have been doing well."
Rovers grabbed the winner seven minutes from time when a lovely chip across the face of goal by Alex Meechan was neatly tucked home by substitute Nathan Lightbody who had only been on the field two minutes.
It proved a vital strike as Mark Shaw brought down Tony Black in the area in injury time and the striker made no mistake from the penalty spot.
