CLITHEROE bagged three points to maintain their excellent run under new boss Lee Sculpher at Shawbridge last night.

Despite the scoreline it was a comfortable victory for the Blues, who, despite a poor start to the season, are putting themselves in the promotion frame.

Unbeaten since Sculpher took the reins at Clitheroe a run of seven games his side created enough chances against Flixton to have won three games.

"From an attacking point of view it was our best display of the season," said Sculpher. "We could have had four or five goals before half-time. The scoreline doesn't really reflect how well we played.

"But I will settle for the three points. It keeps the run going and I am happy we are creating chances."

Clitheroe dominated from the first whistle but chances kept going begging and after 28 minutes they were made to pay when Flixton opened the scoring from their first attack of note.

Within five minutes Neil Spencer had put the home side back on level terms. He broke through, rounded the keeper and then fired home.

Before the interval Spencer grabbed his second. He chested down a long ball from Stuart Todhunter and smashed home a half volley from the edge of the area.

"It was an excellent finish from Neil," said a delighted Sculpher. "It made up for some of the misses earlier in the match."

In the second half Clitheroe dominated possession and the chances continued. They made it 3-1 when Neil Reynolds blasted home a free kick from 25 yards.

But Flixton took the gloss off the result with a goal two minutes from time and they ended the match in the unlikely position of pressing for an equaliser.
