Blackbrook 20 Wigan St Patricks 14 DESPITE throwing away a 14 point advantage Brook emerged as victors from yet another close encounter at Boardmans Lane. Brook started the game brilliantly and ran in three tries in the opening 15 minutes.

Firstly hooker Ian Williams with a quickly taken tap penalty spotted a gap to score by the posts and his try was converted by Paul Toole. Full back Jason Mitchell added a second and strong running forward Gaz Brown also scored as Brook threatened to run up a cricket score.

St Patricks particularly scrum half Stephen Bennett had other ideas. Two tries from Bennett in a five minute spell brought the visitors back into the game before a try from hooker Atherton goaled by Fishwick levelled the score with half time approaching.

The second half was a tense affair with both sides having spells of pressure however the defences held firm with some magnificent last gasp tackling. The only score came Brook's way when smart inter passing produced a try under the posts to Andy Shaw who rounded the full back in style to score, Paul Toole added the conversion.

Despite Brook try line being under siege for the final minutes the home side held on to secure their fifth win of the season. Prop forward Dave Walker was selected as the Andrew Douglas Car Sales man of the match with Andy Shaw also in contention. This Saturday Brook are away at Adlington. However the A team are at home to Adlington A, kick off 2.30pm at Boardmans Lane.

Wigan St Cuthberts U18s 8 Blackbrook 24 Brook ended Cuthberts unbeaten start to the season with an accomplished team effort, based on a solid defence in which Junction Fencing man of the match David Bamber, Andy Dobson, Mark Leonard and Andy Bate stood out. Good handling produced first half tries for Darren Winstanley and Kevin Picton and despite playing into the elements in the second period further tries were added by Dobson, Darren Marsh and Leonard. Darren Woods landed two goals.

Orrell St James U15s 8 Royals 15 Royals owed this victory to a fine first half performance when they opened a 10-2 lead but had to withstand a second half fight back from Orrell. Dane Shepherd, Phil McSpirit and Paul O'Brien got the tries with Phil Platt landing two conversions and a drop goal. Mike Hurle collected the Makerfield Timber man of the match with Martin Hill, Sam Thompson and David Bates in contention.

Royals U14s 30 Thatto Heath C 2 After a close fought first half royals stepped up a gear to claim the spoils in this local derby. Man of the match Dean McGilvray (2), Paddy Flynn, Scott Holland and Paul Clough got the tries, with Ste Bannister top tackler and James Walker, Martyn Bradshaw, Chris Frodsham and Sam Melia also in form.

Royals U13s 20 Wigan St Judes 8 A terrific performance by Wigan St Judes holding the Royals to four-all at half time with Adam Twamley scoring. In the second half Royals found their feet with tries by Adam Twamley who had a great individual game and power house Danny Smith who ran in two tries. A top individual effort by Ryan Robinson (man of the match) turned the play right round on Judes, giving the Royals forwards George Stokes, Kurt Haggerty and Keiran Naylor clear ground to take the ball forward, with Bobbie Littler taking two conversions. Tom Leyland also deserves a mention for his much improved efforts.

West Houghton U10s 10 Royals 30 In an excellent team performance, Royals tries came from man of the match Daniel Craven, Chris Ford (2), Nathan Goodwin (2) and Josh Ainsworth. Scott Conroy, Adam Draper and David Pike also impressed.

Royals U9s 28 Thatto Heath Crusaders 28 A terrific game between these local rivals ended in a fitting result. Brother UK man of the match Andrew Morris got three tries for Royals with top tackler Daniel Kellett, Liam Speakman, Adam Swift, Tom Huntington and Daniel Molyneux getting the others.
