INDIAN star Baichung Bhutia has spoken about his uncertain future in the wake of Bury transfer-listing three players.

Bhutia's contract is up at the end of the season and the 25-year-old is unclear about what will happen after that.

He has shown fleeting glimpses of skill during his time at Gigg Lane but will need to produce a run of solid performances in the first team pretty soon if he is to earn a new deal.

Bhutia said: "I wasn't aware that some of our players had been transfer listed until a journalist told me. I was also told it has something to do with the takeover problems affecting the club.

"To be honest, the players aren't really aware of what is happening. We aren't really told anything about the contracts of other players.

"My own contract with Bury expires in July 2002 and as yet, I don't know if I will be offered another one. No discussions have taken place between myself and the club."

Bhutia, who is captain of his national team in India and enjoys superstar status back home, is content to stay at Bury until his contract runs its course but admits he would like to have something agreed soon.

"I wouldn't say I find the current situation unsettling because I've still got nine months on my contract to run," he added. "But obviously I have got to get something agreed in the future.

"It is difficult to say whether I would want to stay at Bury when my current contract expires. There are still many options open to me, so we will have to see what happens."

Ironically Bhutia was putting together his best run of form at the club in two years before he was injured.

He is currently making a good recovery from the knee cartilage damage he suffered but will not be ready to face Cambridge United on Saturday.

Bhutia is aiming to be back for next week's home match against Chesterfield
