I'M not one to complain or even write letters to newspapers, but I feel I must protest about the traffic coming into Preston.

I have worked in the centre of Preston for more than 20 years and never have I experienced such chaos on the roads as this week.

Setting off from my home in Leyland at 7.55am you would expect that I should reach Preston by car (about seven miles away) within the half hour.

No such luck. Whichever route is taken there are long queues of traffic blocking up the main roads.

The new by-pass road is jammed from the roundabout by the tip all the way into Preston with the carriageway being coned off -- for what reason I don't know.

The route through Lostock Hall is fine until you reach Pear Tree Garage, at Penwortham, where traffic builds up because of temporary traffic lights and more roadworks while the London Road route is a no-go at any time of day.

It seems the only way to get to work on time these days is to set off at 6am!
