RAY Honeyford (Your Letters, Sept 28) refers to the Alice in Wonderland state of race relations in this country when anyone who opposes any more mass immigration is classed as a "racist".

Geoff Brown of the Anti-Nazi League recently welcomed the "wave upon wave of immigrants to this country over the centuries", but this can't be compared with what is going on today, which is mainly economic migration. There is certainly no comparison with the Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution and the Holocaust.

Apparently half the population of Leicester is now Asian, comprising Asian immigrants and people of Asian descent, and the most liberal-minded members of the former majority community of that city must surely feel that enough is enough. Add to this the current shambles at Dover, where the Government appears to have neither the wit nor the inclination to halt the flood of immigrants, legal or otherwise, entering the country on a daily basis.

Correspondent Nicole Ivanoff praised the "integration" policy of the French government but if this has been such a success why are the French authorities waving illegal immigrants through at Calais? Reportedly, French officials are advising immigrants to try again the following night if they don't succeed first time!

It is obvious that these developments, taken together, are storing up trouble for future generations. No doubt these comments will be construed as racism by Mr Brown and his fellow-zealots in the Anti-Nazi League. However, apart from idealogues in these fringe groups, most people would agree that it is just plain common sense to severely restrict any more immigration to this overcrowded country.
