THE funeral of a two-year-old girl who died in a pool tragedy while in Greece with her parents will take place on Monday.

Lee and Linda Wright had originally hoped to bury daughter Kirsty yesterday at Pleasington Cemetery, butalthough had to shelve those plans while a second post-mortem examination was carried out at Pendlebury Children's Hospital, in Manchester.

An inquest was opened and adjourned on Thursday and revealed that the cause of death was drowning and coroner Michael Singleton, released her body so arrangements can be made.

Lee, of Pilmuir Road, in the Higher Croft area of Blackburn, said her funeral will take place on Monday.

Following a service at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church, at 1pm, there will be a burial at Pleasington Cemetery at 2pm.

Kirsty, who had two older brothers, William, 13, and nine-year-old Matthew, died on the Greek holiday island of Kos on Wednesday October 3, while on holiday with her family.

Her parents think Kirsty, who was due to start nursery, in Albion Street, last week, slipped and banged her head and fell in the hotel's pool as she went to pick up her dummy. They said they may consider legal action against the owners of the Ilios Hotel, in Tingaki, after claiming there were no lifeguards at any of the hotel's pools.

Holiday firm Airtours is currently undertaking its own investigation and the Greek National Tourism Organisation today confirmed it, too, is carrying out an investigation.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has campaigned for tighter and more consistent guidelines across Europe after this latest tragedy.

Peter Cornall, head of water and leisure safety at ROSPA, said its figures showed that six children had died this year in similar incidents abroad.
