DEVELOPERS working on the Winewall Inghamite Chapel site have been given a reprieve by councillors who are considering enforcement action against them for breach of planning conditions.

Amended plans showing changes to the conditions were approved by Colne and District Committee but the developers were told they would face enforcement action if a protective barrier at the gable end of number one New Row, Winewall, was not put in place within one month.

At least six conditions have been breached. These were discovered by planning officers investigating a number of complaints from residents, which included garden walls being damaged, the state of the graveyard, the surface of the lane and car park drainage.

A site visit revealed that materials being used and details of surfacing and car park drainage had not been approved by the local authority, along with the positioning of certain windows and doorways.

Councillors voted to approve the new plans but also stressed that they were not happy with the way the developers have gone against the original plans.

Committee member Coun Jo Belbin said: "I hope our feelings about the way this matter has been dealt with will go back to the developers."
