A PRESTON animal charity is calling on people to dig deep and donate cash to help a little cat in need.

Staff at the the Preston branch of Cats Protection require donations to help cover the cost of veterinary treatment for Ingrid, a female cat in their care, who is recovering from a major operation to correct an incontinence problem.

The Preston-based charity first discovered the black and white cat two years ago after receiving a call from a couple living in the Brookfield area of Preston.

The four to five year old moggie had been abandoned and was limping badly. While the couple were willing to take her in, they were unable to pay for Ingrid's veterinary care and turned to Cats Protection for help.

The caring charity paid to have the cat spayed and an x-ray revealed a broken pelvis requiring a stay in Withy Grove Veterinary Clinic, Bamber Bridge, before being returned to her owners.

But just one week later Ingrid was returned to veterinary care after being found kicked. Her rear legs were injured and her tail had to be amputated.

Cats Protection say Ingrid's injuries were not caused by her owners the couple who are now unable to look after the cat. The charity is looking to re-home her as soon as possible.

Jeanette Greaves, spokesman for the Cats Protection, said: "Ingrid is a beautiful cat and a great favourite with the branch, who are now appealing for help towards the vet's bill and for many of the other cats who arrive every week.

"Money raised will also go to help many other cats who need surgery before they can be re-homed."

Anybody wishing to help can send their donations to Withy Grove Veterinary Clinic, 39 Station Road, Bamber Bridge, Preston, or call them on 01772 330103.
