POSTAL workers were evacuated on Wdnesday morning after an Anthrax scare at a Royal Mail delivery office in Preston.

Emergency crews from the fire brigade's major incident support unit, based at Blackpool Road, Preston, rushed to the Christian Road building at around 9.15am after a package containing a powder was feared to be killer Anthrax spores.

But the substance was found to be a medicinal compound, and staff went back to work at around 12.30pm.

A spokesman for the Royal Mail said: "Things should be back to normal on Thursday. The first delivery went out on time, and any mail that wasn't delivered on Wednesday should go out with the mail today. We are catching up."
