IN ANSWER to Andrew Page's letter, October 11, I find his comments extremely offensive, his remarks concerning my wife have been duly noted.

I am not miserable as he suggested. On the contrary I am a very outgoing person noted for my friendliness and jokey attitude, any comments I made regarding students can be backed up with hard facts.

I am not prone to running off at the mouth, without proof of what I am saying, I am not saying all students are bad, but the ones I have had dealings with leave much to be desired.

There are five student dwellings on my street and all have been complained about at one time or another by residents other than myself.

I've had three years of it next to me, and I've certainly had enough.

So, Mr Page finds my sentiments offensive. I invite him to come from behind his pen and confront me personally with his views, let me see the person who made unwarranted remarks about a very sick woman who has had many sleepless nights caused by the very people he champions.

So now I'm paranoid. I don't recall blaming students for all society's ills but when certain factions upset my peace and quiet, I get very upset indeed. If that makes me paranoid then I'm guilty as charged.

Call me prejudiced if you like, but no-one but students have ever caused me trouble.

So Andrew Page is teetotal as indeed I am myself. Maybe he spends so much time in the library owing to him being such boring company.

Mr Page you are not on your own when it comes to hurling insults, but what does it achieve? Nothing, just like your feeble attempts to champion a lost cause.

In closing, let's not forget all the concessions your friends enjoy which most of our senior citizens never see, I look forward to hearing from you. I wait with bated breath.

Mr St John also enclosed a poem;

Seems I've stirred a hornet's nest,

Writing about our local pests

It really has gone over the top,

When will all this sniping stop?

The students have suddenly become famous,

Thanks to a certain ignoramus

No not me Mr Page,

It's you who's on centre stage

I'm just a small part of this story,

So go ahead and grab the glory

Find another cause to fight,

You're boring me to death. Goodnight!
