SCHOOLGIRL Emma Lee answered a call to arms -- and wrestled 60 students into submission as she raised cash for her school's business company.

And as Emma, 16, flexed her entrepreneurial muscles she said: "I want to be the number one arm-wrestler in the country."

The student employed plenty of strong-arm tactics as she raised capital for a school Young Enterprise company which is trying to get its products off the ground in time to sell during the Christmas rush.

Company member Emma -- who is Britain's arm-wrestling number two for the right arm and her gender and weight --was asked to take on fellow students and staff in a test of strength.

She charged 50p for the privilege, and beat all her contemporaries at Westholme School, Blackburn, which takes pupils from across East Lancashire.

Only two hefty male teachers managed to topple her.

Emma, of Darwen, said : "It's been really hard work but a lot of fun.

"I became interested when I met the female world champion, Elaine Pickup, who also lives in Darwen."

She added that many top arm-wrestlers spend hours training with weights -- "but I just train by arm-wrestling other people."

Head of Business Studies Rachel Schofield, who is in charge of Young Enterprise at Westholme, said: "It's all a bit unorthodox, but there's plenty of arm-twisting going on in the business world so I guess this is just another version of an old practice."

Marketing director and sixth former Siobhan Turner explained that the company was keen to start producing a range of goods like pens, pencils and pencil cases in the run-up to Christmas.

Meanwhile, managing director Kathryn Bell said: "I'm just keeping well out of arm's way!"
