Prescot Cables 6 Abbey Hey 2 Prescot produced a Jeckyll and Hyde performance against a physical Abbey Hey side. Cables took the lead after three minutes when Garforth headed home a Benson free kick.

McAllister could have made it two a minute later but his shot shaved the wrong side of the post. Williams saved another effort from McAllister as Prescot looked to be in total control of the game.

However, on 15 minutes, Prescot gifted Abbey Hey an equaliser with a mis-directed back pass that left Levendis with the easiest of chances. Another defensive mix up four minutes later let in Pickering to fire home from close range to put Abbey Hey 2-1 in front.

It was all Prescot after that, with Garforth having a shot cleared off the line, Benson having a goal-bound effort deflected inches wide and Williamson curling a free kick just outside the post. Somehow the visitors kept Prescot out and went in at the interval 2-1 ahead.

Prescot came out in the second half, with a few choice words from manager Tommy Lawson ringing in their ears, and played some champagne football. Garforth levelled the scores on 55 minutes, firing in off the post.

McAllister put Prescot ahead after 64 minutes with a close-range header and Robinson tapped home a minute later to make it 4-2.

Williams saved from Robinson and Riley but could not cut out an effort from Taylor, which Robinson steered home at the back post after 78 minutes. Robinson completed his hat-trick a minute later when Jensen and Garforth carved an opening for him to shoot past the exposed Williams.

Williams produced two more saves to deny Jensen twice before the final whistle allowed him some rest.

Prescot Cables 1 Mossley 1 PRESCOT did everything but win the game in what was very much a midfield battle during the first half. However, Prescot managed to unlock the Mossley defence on 36 minutes when Benson broke down the left and crossed for O'Donnell to head home from 12 yards.

In the second half, Prescot dominated the game with Mossley pulling all eleven players back on occasions. Some inspired keeping from Hackney to keep out efforts from Robinson, Garforth, O'Donnell and Jensen, some resolute defending and some good fortune when McAllister hit the post, kept Mossley in the game. Prescot paid the penalty for not taking their chances when a misdirected back header found Turner lurking in the area and the Mossley man turned and fired home with three minutes remaining to give the visitors an undeserved share of the spoils.

On Saturday (20 October), Prescot take a break from league action and welcome Blackpool Mechanics to Valerie Park in the First Round Proper of the FA Carlsberg Vase, ko 3.00pm.
