GORDON TAYLOR and the PFA are doing a great job.

Who says so? None other than Radcliffe Borough manager Kevin Glendon, himself a former professional footballer with Manchester City and Burnley and a former PFA employee to boot.

With public opinion firmly weighted against the players' union's demands for more cash from the TV companies, Glendon is taking up a stance in their corner and he says: "I don't think the players earning higher salaries should pay more to the union in subscriptions.

"A scan is a scan and an op is an op. They both cost the same no matter who the player involved is.

"Steve Berryman, our goalkeeper has been waiting over a year for a shoulder injury to be sorted out, but the PFA are going to help him, even though he is no longer a member."

Berryman played for Lincoln City and a number of other Football League clubs.

"He's not been a pro now for a number of years, but the PFA have not forgotten him," said Glendon. "He needs a scan and maybe an operation, but the PFA are still there to help him and as Steve is still only in his early thirties, if he gets the injury cleared up and gets himself fit, there will be no problem at all about him playing again."

"I signed up to join the PFA when I became a professional footballer, just like every young player does and I have been employed by them so I have seen, first hand, what they do and they do a fabulous job," said Glendon.

"They used to get 10 per cent from the TV companies. Now the payments from TV are bigger they have dropped. First it was five per cent. Now they are being offered just0.2 per cent.

"I don't think the PFA are being greedy. I think what they have asked for is right."
