THE mother of a man who disappeared from home today spoke of her week living in fear before he was found injured in Blackpool and said: "I just want my lad back home."

Engineer Leslie Howson disappeared after leaving his girlfriend's house on the way to work last Wednesday, prompting a police search.

A police spokesman today confirmed he was being treated for injuries after going into hospital in Blackpool.

He was due to be transferred to Royal Preston Hospital today and police confirmed they were not looking for anyone else in relation to his injuries, which are not life threatening.

Police launched a hunt for the 49-year-old divorced man who went missing after leaving his girlfriend's address in Leven Grove, Darwen, at about 6.35am.

Although he worked at Paramount Engineering in Cranberry Lane, Darwen, Mr Howson had been off work sick for the past fortnight.

His cash card had been used in Blackpool on several occasions.

Police say they were growing increasingly concerned for his safety.

Speaking before he was found, from her home in Pilmuir Road, Blackburn, where she lives with Leslie, Mrs Marion Howson, 76, said: "This whole thing has made me very ill with worry, I have had visions of my son lying in a ditch somewhere.

"He didn't say a word before he disappeared and I don't know why he has gone or where he has gone. He doesn't have any real friends so it's a bit of a mystery.

One of the Directors of Paramount Engineering Terry Cook said: "Leslie's a popular lad and everyone is obviously hoping he is OK. His job is certainly here for him whenever he gets back."

A police spokesman said: "Mr Howson was located in Blackpool and required hospital treatment. His family are aware of the circumstances and are pleased that he has been located."
