I NOTED last week that Hilton Dawson endorsed John Whitelegg's "sustainable transport plans."

However, John Bagguley informed us in the same issue that Arriva cannot recruit sufficient train drivers. This seems to indicate a problem with the sustainability of rail transport, and undermines the rail strategy.

As John's "excellent paper" (HD) tells us that Hilton sponsored its field research meetings, might Hilton also have a word with friend Byers. Surely he would divert the money saved on Railtrack dividends to enable Arriva to pay drivers an attractive wage?
