JOHN Bagguley (Citizen letters) wants to know what I do for a living. I currently work for two days a week on a home office research contract to improve the police's ability to catch murderers.

I don't consider that I sponge off anybody. I work part time in order to fit in at least thirty hours a week on Council business, for which I receive just over £4,000 a year in allowances.

I found Mr Bagguley's letter somewhat sad and ill-informed.

However, at least it was slightly kinder to me than his last one which suggested that I should be used to replace the pillar in the football club's car park.
