THE New York atrocities were blamed for having an adverse effect on the usage of Ski Rossendale.

Rossendale's sport and leisure manager Ed Travaskis told members of the leisure and recreation committee: "There are several travel companies that are on the brink of going bust."

He said winter holiday bookings were down 60 per cent which had a knock on effect on the ski centre and that could equate to £340,000.

He said: "At the moment we are forecasting to achieve about about 92 per cent on our forecasted target.

"At the ski centre we had a target to achieve a profit of £57,000 but that has been reduced to £25,000."
