SACKED Bamber Bridge boss Tony Greenwood has blasted chairman David Spencer for questioning his commitment to the club.

"How dare he," fumed the former Accrington Stanley manager who was shown the door on Wednesday. "I've had 21 years on an off at this club as a player, a coach and a manager and I will not have anyone question my commitment.

"I live and breathe football and Bamber Bridge is my club. No one can ever question whether I have given 100 per cent."

Spencer has already installed Jimmy Willis as the new manager and Greenwood confessed it was the timing of his dismissal that had left him so angry and frustrated.

"I could have accepted it four or five weeks ago when we had lost a few on the trot," he said. "I would have shaken his hand, said I was not doing the job right and was not able to get the lads playing for me.

"But there was no way I am going to shake his hand now. We have taken seven points from nine, drawn with the leaders Burton and beaten Emley and Marine and all this after he has cut the playing staff and the wage bill, including my wages.

"In fact I offered to resign a couple of weeks ago when he told me about the cutbacks but he insisted I was not going anywhere and told me not to do anything stupid. Then he goes and kicks me in the balls!"

It is far too soon for Greenwood to be thinking about looking for another job in football but he is determined he will be back.

And if he needed any extra encouragement he has been heartened by the response of Bamber Bridge fans who are talking about boycotting home games in protest at his dismissal.
