TWO late goals earned Nelson a share of the points but it left Bacup boss Brent Peters frustrated as two points were wrenched from his grasp at Victoria Park.

Goals from Jason Lanns, from the penalty spot after being fouled on 25 minutes, and Stuart Farnell, with a header early in the second half, had put Bacup in the driving seat but it all went wrong for the visitors in the last 15 minutes.

Firstly, a needless handball by Mark Hall handed Nelson a penalty, and saw the Bacup player dismissed, and Andy Howarth's successful spot kick gave the home side hope.

Then four minutes from time Lanns deflected a ball across the face of goal, fired in by Lee Colridge, into his own net to square matters.

But Peters, who was dismissed from the Bacup dug-out by the referee after expressing his frustation at a number of decisions, was far from happy on two counts.

His first problem was with surrendering points and he said: "We dominated the game throughout and had defended well when they had attacked, but the last 15 minutes were just bizarre.

"First Mark Hall handled the ball when he was not under pressure and there was no threat and that gave them a penalty and he was sent off.

"Goals change games and all of a sudden Nelson could see that they could get something from the game.

"Their second goal was from a long ball, their man got free and he whipped a ball across goal that hit Jason Lanns, who could do little about it, in the chest and it deflected past Adams Potts in goal.

"Had we hung on at 2-1 I would have gone back into the dressing room enthusing about the way we had shown the character to hold on but instead we let two points slip away after controlling most of the game."

And Peters was also unhappy with the work of the match officials.

"I have no problem that Mark Hall was sent off, if he deliberatley handles a ball then you expect a red card," said Peters.

"But there was an incident where one of their players committed a foul to give away a penalty. He was the last man and there was not even a yellow card.

"There was a lot of inconsistency in the decisions that were made and, while I don't feel the referee got much help from his linesmen, when their manager is on the pitch at the end of the game complaining to the referee about different incidents to the ones I was unhappy about you can only draw the conclusion that the refereeing was poor."
