CLASS Two mascot Angus has packed the bear necessities of a globetrotter's life into his rucksack -- and taken off for Tahiti.

It sounds like quite a trip for a tiny teddy, but Angus is a seasoned long-haul traveller. And there's no chance he'll get lost, for his Blackburn school friends are keeping track of his every move.

Angus has already planted his paws in New York, Washington, Barbados and Pakistan. Next month he's off to India.

It's all thanks to year-long project at Sacred Heart RC Primary School, Lynwood Avenue.

Class Two teacher Anne Tattersall explained that Angus is taken around the world by parents and relatives who are going on pleasure or business trips.

They send Class Two a postcard and take a photograph of Angus in his latest exotic location using the disposable camera in his rucksack.

"The children then develop their geography skills by finding the places he's visited on the Angus wall map and discovering information about his destinations," she added. Currently he's in Tahiti.

Anne revealed that Angus even has his own website, courtesy of parent Mark Dootson. "Children can write to him by leaving messages in a specially adapted facility on the site called the Post Office. It means they're developing their literacy and ICT skills too -- and it's generated a lot of excitement."

Now, Sacred Heart is hoping to involve other East Lancashire schools in the project via the website. And the youngsters are also looking for new hosts beyond the school community to keep Angus on the road.

Anne said: "We are desperate to find someone who is going to visit Father Christmas in Lapland, so that Angus can meet him and deliver all their letters to Santa -- plus his own, of course."

The children are also keen to find a miniature Blackburn Rovers kit, because he is a big fan, and went to a match at Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Angus's girlfriend Bo is pining for him in a corner of the classroom. And pupil Lily Dootson, six, said: "I miss him too. But I write to him as lot."
