A MAN indecently exposed himself to two women in separate incidents on a Clitheroe town centre car park.

Blackburn magistrates heard that the offences took place in broad daylight and within a few minutes of each other.

And when police arrived at the Chester Street car park Russell Dalton, 29, was still there.

Dalton, of Preston Road, Alston, near Longridge, pleaded guilty to two charges of indecent exposure.

He was ordered to pay £80 compensation to each of the women and £55 costs.

A third charge of indecently exposing himself in Pimlico Road, to which Dalton had previously pleaded not guilty, was dismissed.

Peter Wilde, prosecuting, said the first incident involved a 31-year-old woman who was walking through the car park at 4.40pm on October 8.

She saw Dalton sitting on a wall and as she passed him immediately became aware there was someone behind her.

The woman rushed to her car and when she looked up she saw Dalton standing exposing himself and smiling at her.

As she tried to start the car he approached and stood close to the driver's window.

The woman drove off and reported the matter to the police.

A few minutes later a 32-year-old woman had just got into the car when she became aware of Dalton standing close to the driver's window exposing himself.

Basharat Ditta, defending, said Dalton came from a supportive and caring family and at the time of the incident had been signed off work because of stress and depression.

Mr Ditta said Dalton had, to some extent, been living a lie, leaving the house each morning as if he was going to work.
