ENGLAND capitulated on the second morning of the three-day match with India A at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium.

Having started the day on 37 without loss, the tourists slumped to 100 for seven at lunch with all hopes of a respectable reply to the Indian second-string's 233 for nine left with Nasser Hussain who was unbeaten on 28 at the interval.

Both openers fell within the first three overs as the home attack exploited the early movement just as Richard Johnson had for England yesterday.

But whereas the English pace bowlers failed to take full advantage of reducing the hosts to eight for four, the Indians built on their early inroads.

Mark Butcher, who had dominated the opening partnership of 46, was first to depart, loosely slashing at an Iqbal Siddique delivery to provide a sharp catch for century maker Abhijit Kale at third slip.

The Surrey left-hander, who made 37, was followed by Marcus Trescothick without further addition to the score.

Attempting to withdraw his bat to Dodda Ganesh, the England vice-captain nicked the ball to wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra.

Captain Hussain then watched as others fell around him.

Michael Vaughan once again looked in good touch but failed to convert that into a score.

The Yorkshire batsman struck five fours in his 22, including two vicious pulls off Ganesh, before another cross-bat shot at Siddique cost him his wicket - a top-edge providing a catch to Vinayak Mane running in from point.

Following that partnership of 36, England lost four more wickets for just 14 runs.

Siddique, a bowler on the brisker side of medium, added Mark Ramprakash and Andrew Flintoff to his haul, to make it three wickets for him in as many overs.

Reetinder Sodhi nipped one back to bowl Craig White and then, in left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi's first over, Ashley Giles steered to slip.
