BURY Football Club's mascot added to his reputation as the worst behaved in Britain after being sent off for the third time in four matches.

Robbie The Bobby got a lecture from stewards before two police officers escorted him from the pitch during last night's FA Cup replay against Lincoln City.

His offence this time was tame compared to the others -- he had only been mimicking a linesman and allegedly swearing.

The man inside the suit, Jonathan Pollard, protested his innocence today.

Mr Pollard, who works as a plumber, said: "I didn't do anything wrong and I certainly didn't swear."

Robbie has now been sent off four times making him the worst behaved mascot in British football.

His behaviour is so bad that the Football League is drawing up a code of conduct for mascots, to be implemented at the start of next season. The Shakers mascot, named after Sir Robert Peel, founder of the police force, was also sent off during the Division Two clash with Bristol City, by referee Mike Dean after belly flopping on the pitch and mooning at the visiting supporters.

His past bad behaviour has included brawling with the Cardiff City mascot Barclay the Bluebird and ripping the ears off Peterborough's rabbit mascot. His antics are becoming renowned and he has even featured on American television stations including America's CNN.

So far club chairman Terry Robinson has defended the actions of his mascot following his previous antics.

After the third sending off incident he said: "He is just doing his job." He was unavailable for comment today.
