A TROUBLESOME bus stop which was sited outside an Oswaldtwistle man's house is set to be moved.

Keith Simpson was shocked when he returned home from work to find the bus stop just a couple of feet away from his front door in Union Road.

And he and wife, Christine, say that in the last three weeks they have had difficulty accessing their property because of gangs of youths who now congregate in the shelter.

The shelter was moved 50 yards from another spot to be placed at the front door of his home, a converted hairdressing salon where he has lived for 15 years.

Following a story highlighting the problem in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Hyndburn Council leader Peter Britcliffe called a meeting with Lancashire County Council to look into the matter.

Coun Britcliffe said: "This appears to be a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth and I really think that we need to sort these bus stops out.

"We have now established who the culprit was - and that was Primesite who negotiated with Hyndburn Borough Council and Lancashire County Council . They put it in the wrong place.

"We owe it to the public to get these things right in the first place and can only apologise for the inconvenience that has been caused.

"The matter has been sorted and is now subject to the final nod from Lancashire County Council. The bus shelter will be moved further on, where it will cause less of an obstruction and it is thanks to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph for highlighting the problem."

A happy Christine Simpson said: "I'm really pleased. I don't know where it will go, but as long as it is not outside my house, with kids banging about and making noise, I'm not bothered!"

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council's Public Transport Team said: "The shelter was put up by Prime Site who have an agreement with Hyndburn Borough Council to put up shelters on the quality bus route.

"We were not consulted with about the exact siting of the shelter but were made aware of it after it was installed.

"We will now be working together to find a better site for the shelter."
