TWO youths who took part in a street confrontation in which a brick and bottle were thrown at two older men have been given terms of custody.

Lee Finglass, 19, who also took part in a street mugging when a knife was held to a youth's throat, was detained for a total of three years.

Talion Parkinson, also 19, who is already serving two years for slashing a young woman's face with a Stanley knife, was given six months to serve on top.

Sentencing, Judge David Pirie told Finglass the robbery victim had been walking home on his own late at night when the defendant and others pulled up in a car and he was accosted.

The defendant then got out of the vehicle, approached him from behind and attacked him, knocking him into a garden. A knife was produced, held to the complainant's throat and he was made to hand over his watch and some of his clothes.

The judge said the fear the victim must have felt would have been manifest, there had to be a custodial sentence and it had to be a significant one.

Finglass, of Sanden Street, Blackburn, admitted robbery and both he and Parkinson, who lives in Morecambe, pleaded guilty to affray.

The court was told the two men in the confrontation became involved after remarks were directed at a woman with them.

At first they chased the defendants off, but Finglass and Parkinson returned, threw missiles and one of the men was injured when a brick struck his ear.
