COUNCILLORS look set to give the go-ahead for the building of 55 detached houses and four detached bungalows on land at Tweed Street, Nelson.

The site is the final phase of the Trent Road development and includes an area of unused allotment land.

One objection was received by the council, citing the loss of a grazing field and the introduction of additional traffic.

A late objection says that a bungalow and not houses should be built on the plots nearest to Further Clough Head, a listed biulding, and that run-off off surface water might affect adjoining land and footpath issues. Officers are recommending approval, reporting that the nearest new house to Further Clough head would be 13 metres away and that land drainage is a matter for the land owners.

The application will be discussed by the Nelson Committee on Monday.
