ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman is hopeful that he might have a few more 'Brett Ormerod's' at the Crown Ground.

Former Reds striker Ormerod is close to sealing a move from the UniBond Premier League into the Barclaycard Premier League in five seasons with talks with Gordon Strachan today hoping to round up a £1.75m move to Southampton - with Stanley getting a substantial six figure sum.

Ormerod came to Stanley from Blackburn Rovers and made the leap back into the league when he signed for Blackpool in a £50,000 deal in March 1997.

And Stanley currently have a few former league players who will be aiming to do the same.

Peter Cavanagh has been having rave reviews since he joined Stanley from Liverpool in the summer while Steve Flitcroft is a former Rovers Academy player who could make his mark back in the higher levels.

"There is no reason why they can't. We have some good young players here and it is a good young squad," said Coleman.

"If they help us along and we help them get back into the league in the process then everybody is happy. We would not stand in their way.

"They have got to keep playing well for us and things may come of it for them so it is good for everyone."

Stanley won the club of the month award for November which has seen them record five wins and two draws to move them up to fifth in the division. It has been a period for the Reds who, after conceding a flurry of goals in the early part of the season, have tightened up at the back and now become a real force to be reckoned with.

"It is all credit to the lads. They have received a few knock backs but never let their heads go down and battled back.

"They have got a good attitude, they did not get disheartened.

"We have started to concede less goals as the season has progressed and are still scoring.

"In fact one of our problems is we are scoring when we don't have to!

"When we are 3-0 up we tend to go on and get more but when it is 0-0 and we need one, we just can't seem to get one. That is one thing that has held us back.

"I always knew the lads were capable of going on a run but, I know it is an old cliche, we have got to take every game as it comes.

"The table is certainly looking better than it did a few weeks ago and we know we are a good side.

"We have just got to get that level of consistency and it has started to come.

"We want to finish as high up as possible and we will see what happens."

Stanley are at home to Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday as they look to keep moving up the UniBond Premier League.
