IT IS the practice of many local newspapers to run a 'children's corner' where tiny tots can write to 'Uncle Pete' or some such person.

May I respectfully suggest that it would be in the interest of both yourself and your readers were you to adopt such a policy.

The half-witted, ya-boo, name-calling contributions of Mark Tanner and the courageous 'Red on Green', could then appear in their proper place.

I suppose such letters only go to demonstrate that all political parties have their share of embarrassing numbskulls because Jonathan Sear and Pascal Desmond both had reasonably worded and polite contributions on the same page.

Even so, the logic of Cllr Sear's arguments simply does not stand up.

He can say that it was 'reasonable' to argue in the 1970s that oil supplies would run out in 30 years' time.

I didn't say that it was unreasonable. I simply said that the Greens were wrong.

That cannot be denied and no amount of obfuscation can hide the fact.

It was one of the major planks of both policy and philosophy in the old 'Ecology Party', forerunner of the Green Party.

Cllr Sear, though, does demonstrate that the Greens are becoming quite adept at political opportunism.

He claims that 'scare stories' about CFCs and waste offal being fed to cattle have been 'completely vindicated'.

Come on, Cllr Sear, prove to us that either you or your party knew anything about either of these things before anybody else did through the pages of the newspapers.

You are implying that credit is due to you and your party for exposing these matters and that is a re-writing of history and is completely untrue.

Cllr Sear also says, 'I think I have answered all the questions accurately.'

He knows very well that he hasn't.

He completely ignored population control.

Your readers can find out about that from the internet.

Just for starters, however, if you have more than one child you are an irresponsible person, so the Greens, presumably, being so kind, honest and straightforward, will not want your vote.

Beware voters, it might be only a local election but every vote helps these fanatics to be taken more seriously.

The last politician to achieve real power who concerned himself about creating rural idylls for people to live in and getting the population under control was called Pol Pot.

PS The ignorant, stupid oaf who signed himself 'Red on Green' demonstrate the arrogance of such people.

Ordinary folks who have a chat in a pub are 'alehouse philosophers'.

He/she is probably jealous of such folk because he/she finds a large empty space around them in any pub they frequent.
