A TRAGIC death or a collapsed house. That is what Colin Adams (38) expects any day.

Since moving into his end terrace on Higher Ainsworth Road, Radcliffe, last year, turning lorries have smashed into his wall FIVE times!

The HGVs hit his garden wall as they turn into the Ashworth Frazer factory at Miller Street next door. And although the company pays to have the wall rebuilt each time, Mr Adams fears it is only a matter of time before there is a fatality.

"The pavement is only narrow outside my house and is used by schoolchildren, mums pushing prams and other pedestrians. It's so dangerous that I won't let my ten-year-old son use the front door or play in the front garden," he said.

"Peoples' lives are being put at risk and it's making my life a misery." The wall was first hit in January and Mr Adams went through his insurance company for the £600 repair bill.

"Ashworth Frazer has sorted it out the four times since. They may be happy to keep rebuilding it but I'm not."

He is so exasperated that he has asked Bury South MP Ivan Lewis and Radcliffe councillor Barry Briggs to intervene.

Mr Lewis said: "It's outrageous that people's lives are being put at risk in this way. The company is being irresponsible in failing to stop a really serious problem."

A possible solution is moving the entrance to Miller Street further along, but there is some doubt who is actually responsible for the street.

Ashworth Frazer's area service director Andrew Hoarty said: "This is something that we are looking into, but we need to write to the land registry."

He added: "We appreciate how Mr Adams must feel and have gone out of our way to put the damage right, even when it is not one of our lorries that has hit the wall.

"At the end of the day we want a solution that everyone is happy with."
