A BLACKBURN man has been fined and handed a community order after a eventful day in which he was arrested twice after stealing a bottle of cider and damaging his mother's home.

Blackburn magistrates heard that on December 3 Andrew Frederick Rawes appeared in court, was arrested for theft, was released on bail, got drunk and was later arrested for damaging a window at his mother's address, an offence that placed him in breach of bail conditions.

Rawes, 27, of Roebuck Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to damaging a window belonging to his mother, Jean Rawes, and stealing from Morrisons.

He was made subject to a 12-month community rehabilitation order and ordered to pay £100 compensation.

Claire Fanning, prosecuting, said Rawes had appeared at his mother's home at 9.50pm and started banging on the door.

She went upstairs and looked out of a bedroom window and saw him in the back garden. He started banging on the patio door and then the noise stopped.

"Mrs Rawes was worried that he might be in the house and it was only when the police arrived that she felt able to come downstairs and examine the damage," said Miss Fanning.

"At the time there were bail conditions in force which prohibited him from contacting his mother."

Andrew Church-Taylor, defending, said Rawes had a problem with alcohol and that was behind the behaviour displayed in the later part of the day.

"He has little recollection of the incident," said Mr Church-Taylor.
