A FAMILY-friendly pub has won a national award after being picked as a top choice for Christmas dinner.

The Queen Victoria Brewsters Restaurant in Queen Victoria Road, Burnley, celebrated Christmas early after winning the award from national magazine Chat.

David Ainsworth, who had been manager for two years, said: "It came as a surprise to us because we didn't even know someone had visited us.

"This was a fantastic accolade for us. Christmas is one of our busiest times of the year and we make it a very special experience for our younger guests by laying on extra festivities. "Visitors on Christmas Day even spotted a surprise guest with a big white beard!"

Brewsters beat off competition from Vintage Inns, Harvester, Tony's Carvery and others.

It was strongly praised for its child-friendly focus including Santa's grotto and handy parent cam-TV so parents can dine and watch their children playing in the fun factory.

The menu was also acclaimed for choice and value in the children's section.

The fun factory is open until 9pm on weekdays and 10pm at weekends and sometimes is so popular a waiting list has to be introduced.
