PRESTON may have grabbed one of the best victories of the season over Wolves - but it came at a price.

Scorers Iain Anderson and Sean Gregan, plus instrumental midfielder Mark Rankine, all picked up knocks during yesterday's tea-time clash with Wolves.

Defender Colin Murdock was sidelined for the game with a back injury, which forced Moyes' hand into dropping Gregan into the centre half role and shuffling his midfield.

And along with Richard Cresswell's injury, which happened as PNE's 11 match unbeaten run came to an end, and Michael Jackson out of action, the situation looks bleak ahead of Saturday's trip to Wimbledon.

Moyes said yesterday: "I was without Colin Murdock today as he had a back injury and a few of the lads in the dressing room, including Iain Anderson, Mark Rankine and Sean Gregan, have knocks. I'll see tomorrow how they all are, but I expect them all to travel to London."

Should Gregan fail to recover, Moyes doesn't have an obvious centre-half replacement.

Moyes is confident his team can repeat last season's heroics - but fans see the current injury problems as a reason to go out and buy players.

The boss has already indicated he needs money if his team is to sustain its current performance, but last night he let slip that getting the big names in to Deepdale just was not an option.

He added: "The team is good enough to do as well as last season, based on this performance. I can't just go out and buy ready-made players, and we are working on improving those we have."
