ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman is setting his side no targets in the race for promotion.

It is no secret that everyone at the club is desperately ambitious and wants to see the side win the UniBond Premier Division and gain promotion to the Conference.

Those thoughts looked to have been curtailed for another season after Stanley lost five of the first 10 games this season.

But a run of six league games without defeat - four of them wins - in recent weeks has boosted their position and they now lie third, 12 points behind leaders Burton Albion.

Promotion is again a possibility but Coleman knows it is a big ask to close the gap.

"It is pointless saying we need to do this and we need to do that and then we'll win the league," said Coleman.

"We just need to try to win each game and give the fans something to cheer about in the process.

"There is no point in looking back and going over games that have already been played, although there is a tendency to do that.

"But you just have to try to win every game and then see where that takes you.

"We are 12 points behind with a game in hand but there is not just Burton Albion to take into account.

"There are other teams in the equation as well."

Stanley have taken four points so far from the Christmas fixtures after getting a 3-3 draw at home to Burton last Saturday and a 1-0 win - thanks to a Simon Carden goal - yesterday.

They travel to Worksop tomorrow just weeks after beating the side which boasts former Burnley boss Chris Waddle 5-0 at the Crown Ground.

"I wasn't very happy with the first half at Bamber Bridge," said Coleman. "I thought we were pretty poor but Bamber Bridge deserve credit.

"We had a bit of a chat at half time and they accepted that they weren't playing as well as they could and they were disappointed in themselves.

"They have reached high standards over the past few months but they dropped those standards but they took it on board and obviously I was very pleased with the second half performance.

"I thought it was some of the best football we have played this season."

Coleman said it was difficult to pinpoint the reason behind the sudden dip in form.

"Against Burton last week we gave them a little bit too much respect but against Bamber we didn't give them enough respect. We thought it would just happen for us.

"But you have to take each game on its own merit."

And he praised Carden, who scored his 11th goal in eight games on Boxing Day.

"He's a machine at the moment. Give him his due, he could have had a hat-trick. He was playing up front again because Lutel was unavailable.

"He had a bad start to the season in goalscoring terms and the ball just wouldn't go in for him but he didn't lose heart and he kept believing in himself."

ALSO in the UniBond League tomorrow, Rossendale are at home to Chorley in Division One.
