EWOOD chief John Williams slammed reports linking David Dunn with a move to rivals Chelsea, as the young midfielder said he wants to fight for his place back.

A story in one of the tabloids this morning claimed the Stamford Bridge club are ready to lodge an £8 million offer for the England Under 21 international as they prepare to off-load Italian whizz-kid Sam Dalla Bona.

But a furious Williams has reacted angrily to such suggestions, dismissing it as 'unwelcome speculation' ahead of Rovers' first major cup semi-final in years.

"I know absolutely nothing about this whatsoever," blasted Williams.

"There hasn't been any contact at any level from Chelsea about David Dunn and, on the eve of our first major semi-final in years, it's unwelcome speculation."

The story claimed the Blues have targeted Dunn as a replacement for Dalla Bona, who they are ready to sell to AC Milan for £7 million before the Italian transfer window closes at the end of the month.

But, although Dunn is known to be frustrated at being dropped by manager Graeme Souness recently, Rovers have repeatedly insisted he is not for sale despite interest from Newcastle and Leeds.

And Dunn has backed this up today.

"It is the same situation as when I have been linked with other clubs in the past," he admitted.

"I've no intention of leaving Blackburn Rovers. This is my club and this is where I want to play.

"Obviously I have been disappointed at not playing recently but it is up to me to knuckle down and win back my place.

"I am happy here and I am currently buying a new house in the area so that proves I don't want to go anywhere."
