Clarets boss Stan Ternent is believed to be ready to make a £1million bid for Bradford City's Robbie Blake -- but the move may be put on hold.

The 25-year-old, who can operate up front or on the wing, could become the Turf Moor club's joint top signing -- Ian Moore having also been signed for seven figures from Stockport -- though Ternent may hold fire on the transfer.

Blake is a player Ternent has long hankered after bringing to Turf Moor and now would be an ideal time with Gareth Taylor (ankle) and Glen Little (hamstring) out for the next couple of weeks at least.

But for the second time in a week injury may upset Clarets plans.

A possible loan move for Southampton's former Blackburn Rovers front-runner Kevin Davies came to nothing after an injury to another former Ewood employee, striker James Beattie.

Beattie damaged an ankle in the Saints 3-1 home reversal at the hands of Manchester United on Sunday and St Mary's boss Gordon Strachan will not now release the player and includes him in his squad for tonight's FA Cup third round clash with Rotherham at Millmoor.

And Blake is now also facing a prolonged period out of the reckoning for the Bantams first team after straining stomach muscles.

He sustained the injury in City's 2-0 FA Cup third round defeat at Walsall last week and was reported to still be in a lot of pain yesterday.

The Valley Parade camp are not expecting Blake to be back in action for at least a month.

The Clarets reserve team are in action tonight with an away trip to Wrexham in the Avon Insurance League's Premier Division.

With strikers Andy Payton and Greek under-21 international Dimitri Papadapoulos both struggling with injury Clarets reserve team boss could be set to give one of the club's youngsters a chance alongside experienced Tony Ellis.

Ternent's strength in depth will certainly be tested as Steve Davis and Mitchell Thomas are long-term casualties while Paul Weller is suffering from a hamstring strain.

THE Clarets dropped down to fourth in Division One last night with Millwall's 1-0 victory over Watford.

The Lions moved into second spot, one point ahead of Burnley but they have played two games more.

Leaders Man City are four points ahead of the Clarets having played one game more while third placed Wolves have a one point lead over Ternent's men - but they too have played an extra match.
