ROBBIE BLAKE'S £1m move to Turf Moor will not be completed until next week at the earliest.

Clarets chairman Barry Kilby confirmed today : "Everything is agreed between the clubs but that is not the end of a transfer.

"We still have to sort things out with the player and his agent (Paul Stretford).

"We have another meeting scheduled for next week but the urgency has been taken out of the situation because the player would be cup-tied for the match at Cheltenham next weekend."

Should the move finally go ahead as Clarets boss Stan Ternent hopes, one man who knows Blake well believes the Burnley boss has snapped up another bargain.

"Burnley are getting a very good player but I know there is a lot more to come from him," said Paul Jewell, the man who was manager of the Bantams when Blake helped them win promotion to the Premiership in 1999.

Ternent hopes that Blake can work the same sort of magic to help the Clarets emulate that feat - and Jewell thinks he might.

"I'm sure Stan is just the right man to get the best out of him," he said. "He has gone to a smashing club near the top of the division but he has been there before with Bradford and knows what it is all about."

Blake's partnership with Lee Mills was a key factor in the Bantams rise to the top flight and Jewell believes his arrival at Turf Moor will only help the club.

"On the whole he did great for me and Stan knows what he can do," he said. "He has got fantastic ability, great feet and a great football brain. If he can add a few goals from six yards, that would be perfect.

"They have got him for a good price and he will give them an extra dimension to their game."

The strike partner Blake has left behind at Valley Parade also believes he is going to be a big hit at Turf Moor.

Ashley Ward has tipped the 25-year-old to be a star for the promotion-chasing Clarets, as he was for Bradford.

The former Blackburn Rovers striker has delivered a glowing reference for the man who has left City as the club's 12-goal leading-scorer. He said: "He's had a fantastic last two or three months, hitting top form and showing what a great player he is.

"I'm not surprised someone has come in for him.

"Robbie has still got plenty of football in front of him and looks a good investment for Burnley to buy. With his ability and his age, he is still young enough to make a big name for himself.

"He didn't really get a full go in the Premiership, particularly last year when he spent the first part of it on loan.

"I'm sure he would love another crack at it and he sees this as a great chance to go up and prove he can play at that level."

Blake has been offered a four-year deal by Burnley but he admitted it will be a wrench to leave Valley Parade.

He said: "I can look back on some good times. The Bradford fans have always been good to me - even in the two years when I had a lot of problems. I've been happy at the club and I think that's been shown this season because I've been playing regularly and scoring goals."

Ternent has wanted to strengthen his pool of striking talent for some time and Blake's arrival will increase the battle for places up front, Gareth Taylor and Ian Moore having led the line all season.

But Blake also has the ability to drop off deeper and play wide, possessiing the creative ability to unlock defences and provide chances for colleagues.
