A TEAM of helpful Prince's Trust volunteers have given children at a local women's centre somewhere to play.

The Sahara group moved to new premises on Fishwick Parade, off New Hall Lane, late last year. Since then they have needed a creche for their members' children.

Now a group of volunteers from Preston Prince's Trust have put in two weeks' hard work to supply Sahara with the long-awaited creche and a play area, both to be unveiled tomorrow (Friday).

Susanna Bullman, office manager for Sahara, said: "We had a room that we had not been using so they have decorated that and turned it into a creche.

"Then in the yard at the back they've put down chippings so the children can play there. We think they've done a great job."

The Sahara Centre is dedicated to helping local ethnic minority women get a good start in life. Women get the chance to learn a range of new skills in a place that takes into account the cultural differences in their lives.

On hand are experts ready to use their knowledge in everything from painting, counselling to computing.

And the Prince's Trust team felt Sahara was a worthy cause. Claire Broadway, programme support worker for the Trust, said: "The Prince's Trust is for young people from 16 to 25 years old. As part of their 20-week course they have to choose a project within the community.

"It is their decision, but they only get two weeks to finish the project so they have to choose something they can complete.

"They ask for donations for everything they need like paint, and go to local companies to ask for plumbers and builders to help.

"It is quite a feat. It's a very stressful thing to do and they have all really worked hard."
