GREAT Harwood boss Denis Underwood is confident his side can get a result against fellow strugglers Congleton in the NWCL Division One clash at the Showground tomorrow.

His side lost 2-0 to the Cheshire side a couple of weeks ago and suffered at the hands of promotion-chasing St Helens, losing 3-0, midweek.

But Underwood is sure his side can turn it around tomorrow.

"It was an awful game when we lost to Congleton but I think since then we have picked up and we look better.

"We have shown a lot of character in recent weeks, to come back from one-goal down and force draws at Abbey Hey and Fleetwood.

"We have still been creating chances and we are upbeat. We do just need to get our noses in front.

"The referee was disappointing in the St Helens game and that frustrated me. He gave a dubious penalty and sent one of our lads, Simon Garner, off.

"He should have been sent off for kicking out at their lad but their lad did the same and he only got a yellow. That was frustrating, especially when we are in our position, near the bottom. But I think we will be alright."

He is especially hoping the experienced former Conference midfielder Dave Sharples can continue to make the impact he has since he signed a couple of weeks ago.

"He is pushing 40 but he looked better than many of the highly paid players at St Helens," said Underwood. "He is good on the ball and he finds his man."

Neil Baron should be back after missing the St Helens game because of work commitments but skipper Neil Kennedy will miss out - he is currently suspended for five weeks.
