KEEN "greens" are invited to get involved in this year's bumper Bury Environment Week.

The seven-day celebration runs from May 18 to 25, and culminates in a giant Environment Fair at the Castle Leisure Centre in Bury.

Last year the fair attracted nearly 100 stalls and side-show attractions, with thousands of local people attending.

Councillor Julie Higson, executive member for the environment, said suggestions already submitted included guided walks and talks, club meetings, presentations and a look at a range of environmental regeneration projects.

"We are looking for even more ideas and for more people to get involved," she said.

"We still have places and stall space available at the Environment Fair. Perhaps there are people who have been thinking about staging an environmental event in their own locality: if so, we hope that these can be linked in with the week.

"This is a great chance to raise awareness of all environmental issues and we want as many people as possible to be part of it."
