IF you like a coffee or a cuppa in the mornings, then you'll love the latest fundraising event to be staged by the East Lancashire Hospice in April.

The hospice, based in Park Lee Road, Blackburn, will stage a coffee morning week from April 8 to 14, where groups, friends and even individuals can come along and enjoy a coffee and chat at the hospice, while also raising funds for the charity's work.

Those visiting to take part during the week, pay a small charge, which goes towards the target of £300,000 needed to run the new day therapy centre and refurbished hospice.

The centre was unveiled at a special opening earlier this month, attended by hundreds of local dignitaries, supporters and friends and when Lady Clitheroe unveiled a commemorative plaque.

The centre was paid for by donations from local people after organisers launched a £1.3 million appeal.

The charity's trustees also invested a further £600,000 in refurbishing the existing building.

The result was one large, state-of-the-art centre, with 10 individual inpatient bedrooms and facilities for 100 day care patients a week, compared with the one ward available before.

The day centre is linked to the old building seamlessly and provides everything from a hydrotherapy pool to nurses' stations.
