CALLING all classical music fans, make a date in your listening diary for 7.30pm Radio 3 on March 1.

Because if you do, you will hear this fantastic concert conducted by willowy and elegant Paul Daniels -- an eclectic mix of the music of Sibelius, Beethoven, Mozart and Bartk.

Sibelius' last major work 'Tapiola' is dedicated to the great forests of Finland and the wood-sprites in the gloom that weave magic secrets.

You can visualise these majestic, mysterious forests through this atmospheric music.

Swiss pianist, Andreas Haefliger, played Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto, bringing magic to the work with his poised and liberating interpretation of this often-played piece. The largo section was so lovely it felt reminiscent of a contemplative prayer.

Mozart's exuberant nine minute 'Symphony No 32' is full of the lively influence of pre-revolutionary Paris.

The final music carried this liveliness into the modern era, Bela Bartok's music for the ballet the 'Miraculous Mandarin'.

Its was jazzy and full of descriptive moments, such as the roar of the traffic outside the window of the room where the drama unfolds.

A trombone solo and clarinet solo are both outstanding and worth listening for if you remember to tune in. I loved it.
