I THOUGHT this was a nice story that readers might like to read.

I recently went into Bury to shop and to post a very important letter, which was unstamped. As I recall, it was really windy and litter was flying around everywhere. I went about my business and when I got home I suddenly realised that I had forgotten to post my letter.

I looked everywhere for it, even retracing my steps back into Bury, but it was nowhere to be found. I was in despair. The letter was extremely important and personal, being addressed to a friend who was having a very difficult time.

Then, four days later, a letter arrived from my friend, thanking me for my words of encouragement. He said they had really cheered him up and got him through the weekend. I was overjoyed, not only that my friend was happy again but that someone in Bury, a complete stranger, had actually picked up the letter, put a stamp on it and posted it.

May I say thank you to this honest stranger. Even though it was only a letter, and while it may have seemed a simple task to post it, such unselfish action has restored my faith in human nature and the people of Bury.
