DISQUALIFIED driver Karl Creasey was so sure he was going to be sent to prison he brought his toothbrush when he surrendered to a warrant for his arrest.

And his predicted outcome came about when Blackburn magistrates jailed him for four months.

Creasey, 34, of Brookway, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to two offences of driving while disqualified, both committed within two months of the ban being imposed.

And passing sentence the chairman said Creasey had shown complete contempt for the order of the court.

Kevin Preston, defending, said on both occasions Creasey's lift to work had let him down and he had foolishly taken the car which had been parked on some spare land since he was banned.

He said Creasey had subsequently lost his job and had spent the last few weeks sorting out his affairs.

"He has effectively put his house in order in expectation of a custodial sentence today," said Mr Preston.

"After several unsuccessful attempts, he has managed to surrender to the warrant today and he has brought his toothbrush with him."

The court had earlier heard that Creasey had failed to co-operate with the probation service in the preparation of pre-sentence reports.
