A LYTHAM school has donated hundreds of pounds to a Sri Lankan school.

Pupils, parents and staff at King Edward VII and Queen Mary school have collected £700 to buy textbooks for the Kuda Oya school in Sri Lanka's southern plains.

The decision to collect the money was taken after a visit of cricketers from the Lytham school to Sri Lanka last summer.

Julian Wilde, school principal, said: "Our visit was a very humbling experience. We were so warmly and generously welcomed by a school community which had minimal buildings and equipment.

"None of us will ever forget the day and we are delighted to be able to help Mr Wijepala and his school financially."
