A VOLUNTEER who helps ex-servicemen is appealing for help in tracing stolen medals.

Beverley Maloney of Heathfield Drive, Tyldesley arrived home from work to find she had been burgled.

Jewellery, cash, her niece's laptop computer and two commemorative medals awarded to Beverley for her voluntary work were missing.

One medal, described as a gold coloured disk about two inches in diameter and embossed with 'Challenge 1993' and a picture of a wheelchair athlete, was awarded to Beverley for assisting the medical team at the First World Ex-servicemen's Wheelchair Games, held in Stoke Manderville in 1993.

Beverley said: "This medal is particularly significant to me as it was presented by King Hussain of Jordan, who has since died. The medal had huge sentimental value to me."

The second award was a gold coloured Wilkinson Sword of Peace brooch, again presented for medical team voluntary work for the BEWSA (British Ex-servicemen World Sports Association) in 1997.

Beverley said: "Much of the missing jewellry is irreplacable, like my grandmother's wedding ring, but I know this happens to so many people and I don't hold much hope of having them returned. But the medals are of no monetary value -- they are purely of sentimental importance to myself."

Beverley is urging anyone who is approached with the medals, or finds them to contact Leigh Police on 0161 872 5050 or leave a message on 0161 856 7259.
