RESIDENTS at a Blackburn block of flats were left without water for over two days.

The problems began on Friday when the taps ran dry at Bowland House at Larkhill. And the water stopped flowing again on Saturday morning until contractors, brought in by housing association Space, which owns the block, fixed the problem yesterday lunchtime.

One resident, Ruth Dale, said: "The majority of people who live in this block are over 60. We rang United Utilities but they said the problem would have to be fixed by Space as there is an internal meter. There were three blocks here originally, but two were demolished and Bowland House was done up."

Another Bowland House resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I have lived here for quite a few years now and to have no running water. It has been a nightmare. I can't believe that a whole block of flats could have no water for over a day"

On Sunday lunchtime, workers from contractors Expo came out to fix the problem, with each flat given two litres of bottled water.

Ruth said: "Everything is working okay now, I just hope it doesn't happen again."

Now, residents are to meet with representatives from Space on Wednesday evening to try and sort out the problems.

A spokesperson United Utilities spokesperson said: "As there is an internal meter at Bowland House, the repairs would have to be carried out by the owners or their contractors." Space were unavailable for comment.
